Webb boys win cross country state; FHS girls and Koszela finish fifth

In his 30th season coaching cross country at Webb School, head coach Warren Heiser has racked up back-to-back state titles — third overall — as the Spartan boys captured the Division II championship in Nashville Saturday.

Meanwhile, Kellie Ivens and her Lady Admirals fell short of a girls Class AAA state title, but did managed a fifth-place finish. Ivens’ top male runner, junior Michael Koszela, finished fifth (15:48) and led the FHS boys to a ninth-place state finish Saturday. More on the Farragut teams later in this article.

WEBB BOYS ARE NO. 1

Led by four runners in the top seven individually, the Spartans took home their No. 1 TSSAA hardware with a winning score of 47, 21 points better than runner-up Baylor (68). McCallie (98), Brentwood Academy (109) and Father Ryan (132) rounded out the top five.

Webb’s Denton Jones took second (15:09), while teammate Andrew Press was close behind in fourth (15:30), followed next by Spartan Chris Datskos in fifth (15:31). Lex Hultquist was nearby, finishing seventh (15:48).

FHS GIRLS ARE FIFTH

Finishing just six points behind two-time defending champ Germantown Houston, who finished fourth, the Farragut girls were led by Caroline Sneed’s 11th-place finish (19:27) followed immediately by teammate Andrea North in 12th-place (19:37).
