Grigsby Chapel gets school light

The Farragut Board of Mayor and Alderman voted unanimously to purchase flashing school zone signs for St. John Neumann Catholic School.

The hardware for the signs and installation will cost $6,000, said town engineer Darryl Smith.

The signs will be installed on existing poles approximately 300 to 350 feet east and west of St. John Court.

Smith estimated it would take eight to 10 weeks to have the signs in place.

“There is a long waiting period to get hardware,” he said.

The speed limit will be 25 mph near the school entrance when the lights on the sign are flashing.

Town Hall will close 30 minutes earlier on Monday through Thursday.

A motion to change the hours of operation on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. passed by a 3-2 margin.

Mayor Eddy Ford and Vice Mayor Mike Haynes voted against the motion.

Town Hall will maintain its 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule on Friday.
