Bearden swim and dive team 4-0 plus Bristol triumph

While staying on an unblemished roll so far during this season, the Bearden AquaDogs swim and dive team dunked arch-rival Farragut in a typically tight dual meet Sunday at the UT Student Aquatic Center.

“That was nice, the kids came out here and worked hard and competed hard,” said BHS head coach Ben Brink.

As for top performances “on the guys’ side, Carson Nicely and Alan Myers-Davis,” Brink said. While Nicely was a double-winner in the 100-freestyle and 200-free, Myers-Davis — a top relay man — also caught Brink’s eye with solid second-place efforts in the 50-free and 100-butterfly.

“On the girls’ side, Annie Broome and Sarah McCall, they stepped up and swam really well today,” Brink added about McCall’s first-place finish in the 100-breaststroke and second-place showing in the 200-individual medley, and Broome’s first-place effort in the 100-fly and second-place finish in the 200-free.

Freshman Cameron Higdon also made waves, winning both the 200-IM and 500-free.

In diving, the AquaDogs made it a clean sweep thanks to the efforts of top finishers Jennifer Lamp and Justin Miller.

Bearden improves to 4-0 in dual meets in addition to winning the Big 10 Relay Carnival meet in Bristol, Va. among a 13-team multi-state field earlier this month.

FARRAGUT CLOSE

“The kids swam well,” FHS head coach Mike Bowman said. “We had a couple of kids that were missing, or left early. And I wasn’t here at the beginning to get them jacked up (late due to a flight delay in Maryland).”

Farragut double individual winners were Rachel Bellich in the 50-free and 100-free, Anna Miller in the 200-IM and 500-free, and Brad Jones in the 100-fly and 100-breaststroke.

As for other top efforts, “I had a kid that I put in the 200-free for the first time, and he went in and got a state cut at 2:06,” Bowman said of freshman Ben Hyman. “That was a good swim for him, he had never done the 200-free before.”
