Letter to the Editor
Support for Hornback

Dear Editor:

I am writing this letter in support of Brian Hornback who is running for reelection of Knox County School Board Fifth District seat.

My name is Gina Oster, and I am a mother of three boys that attend Cedar Bluff Schools. I have been active in the PTSA at Cedar Bluff for the past eight years (and) during that time I have and currently serve as legislative chairperson, and past president. With all that said I have worked with Brian for the last five years. I have known him to spend countless hours away from his own family in order to serve his district and community. Brian is accessible, and attentive, and aware of ALL the issues that face Knox County schools today.

With working with Brian, I have found him to be extremely compassionate, and concerned of all children in Knox County. He is NO “Rubber Stamp Vote” on the board. That is one of the reasons that I support him. I do not elect representatives to vote so they can be popular with their peers. I elect representatives to represent me and my family and our concerns. Brian has done that numerous times, and continues to forge ahead. There has been a lot of “so called petty politics” his opponent states, but it goes much deeper than him gaining any personal benefits.

Brian has done what we as the community, parents, and taxpayers ask him to do. He watches the county’s money, he wants to be fiscally responsible, and expects that from the superintendent. Isn’t that what we want and expect? Why should he be blamed for doing what he was elected to do? I am appalled by some of the attacks that he is responsible for divisiveness on the board. That is just not true. He works with all the board members and with the superintendent. He has always worked well with the county commissioners, and the county mayor. He doesn’t want to divide the board, he wants the board to be held accountable with your children, and your money. He does expect that also from the superintendent, no matter who that is, and we should applaud his efforts.

I am sure many are not aware at what cost he does his job. It saddens me to think that we have an excellent board member in Brian Hornback and he is unjustly accused of doing something wrong for our children.

If you ever want to experience a school board member that will listen, that will spend his time and energy getting you the answer you need or the help. If you want proven results and someone who will spend countless hours helping your children and their education, then you must vote on Feb. 10 for Brian Hornback. Just contact him. He responds in 24 hours and may not have the answer you want, but he is honest and caring and will work hard for you and your children.

Thank you,

Gina Oster
