The Knox County Schools system announced last week that two portable buildings would be placed on the campus at Farragut High School, and that one portable building would reside at Farragut Primary School.

These three buildings, according to 6th District School Board member Chuck James, will provide only six additional classroom spaces to the vastly overcrowded campuses. A Band-Aid for a growing problem.

With new development slated for McFee Road and more construction scheduled for Campbell Station Road at FHSís back door, itís just too little, too late.

Knox County School Board members a decade ago should have realized that the rapid growth in Farragut was going to produce an overcrowded situation. But what action did the School Board members take then? None.

If School Board members had acted when action was needed a new school in West Knox County would be completed by now, when itís needed, not 10 years from now when a bad situation becomes a deplorable situation.

Letís hope that the search for school real estate will be placed in a priority mode and action taken today rather than tomorrow.
