BHS wins West Town Mall’s Simon Scholars Program contest
- Thu, Feb, 19, 2004
After 18 weeks of competition, 16 area schools earned a combined total of more than 93,000 points in Knoxville Center and West Town Mall’s Simon Scholars programs.
The top winners for Knoxville Center, Fulton High School; for West Town, Bearden High School — combined to earn nearly 33 percent of the total points earned by all schools.
The fall session of Simon Scholars began in September 2003 at both malls, and 16 area schools were selected to participate.
Ten schools participated in Knoxville Center’s program; Fulton High took first place with more than 11,600 points and will receive two computers. The mall’s second- and third-place schools were Halls High School and Vine Middle School. Halls will receive a $500 Simon Gift Card.
Six schools participated in West Town Mall’s Simon Scholars program; Bearden High School took first place with more than 19,000 points. St. John Neumann Catholic School and Powell High School earned second and third place. These schools also will receive the prizes that Knoxville Center is awarding to its top point-earners.
Simon Scholars was designed as an incentive program for area schools by Simon Property Group, Inc. to demonstrate its commitment to education. Shoppers earned points for the schools each time they visited a Simon Mall and purchased items. Each receipt was taken to the Simon Marketplace where it was stamped, and each dollar spent equaled a point for the school of the shopper’s choice.
