CAK, Knox Metro winless at Icearium state hockey semis

While the Christian Academy of Knoxville/Maryville Warriors won the Knoxville Cup March 2 to earn the crown as Knoxville metropolitan high school hockey champions, they shot blanks during the State of Tennessee High School Hockey Tournament semifinals last weekend in the Icearium. CAK/Maryville went 0-4 against Memphis-area powers Houston and Collierville while also losing to Nashville area teams Page and Brentwood. Attempting to salvage one win Saturday afternoon, the Warriors used two goals from Joseph Potter and one each from Nicholas Hiers and Caleb Robinson to grab a 4-2 lead after two periods against Brentwood. But the Bruins reeled off five unanswered goals in the third period for a 7-4 victory. The Knoxville Metro Cherokees also failed to win in four tries, but did manage a 5-5 tie with Page. Metro player Daniel Carter, far right player pictured, joins a Metro teammate to battle for a loose puck in Sundayís game against Houston. The Mustangs crushed the Cherokees 12-0 as Houston and Collierville each went unbeaten (4-0) during the round-robin competition and will square off in Predators Cup 2004 March 13 in Nashville to crown this seasonís state champion.
