It might seem like Boss Clown Darren Burrell, right, of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is just clowning around but he and Rie Sekine, left, are helping the first-grade teachers at Rocky Hill Elementary School with some fundamentals at the 24th Annual Clown Day. The event was the brainchild of teacher Carolyn Daniel and now-retired teacher Barbara Craig in 1980. The event quickly grew into a daylong event of learning and fun. The 120 first-grade children dress up in their best clown attire and are treated to 12 learning rings manned by parent volunteers. They even have a parade of clowns.
