SoccerDawgs quick out of tourney gate
Staff Reports - Thu, May, 13, 2004
It didn’t take a super effort for Eric Turner’s Bearden SoccerDawgs to advance into Wednesday’s District 4-AAA Tournament semi-finals against West at BHS (played after press deadline).
Five different Bearden players scored as the state’s No. 6-ranked SoccerDawgs eased past a feisty South-Doyle team 5-2 Monday at Bearden Stadium.
A win Wednesday would set up yet another huge post-season clash with archrival and defending Class AAA state champion Farragut.
If both teams survive Wednesday, Bearden will travel to Farragut Stadium Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff in the 4-AAA tourney championship game.
Monday’s action saw Cody Windeknecht, Ryan Radcliffe, Rico Carter, Andrew Hinkle and Jay Lutz score for BHS, whose record improved to 12-5-1.
BHS assists came from Carter, Hinkle, Kris Gustafson and Fabrice Djenini.
The Cherokees, out-shot by Bearden 18 to 3, end the season with a 4-10-1 record.
