Diamond Ads crush Hunters Lane, one win from title tilt
Nation's No.4 FHS baseballers use 15-hit attack to win 16-6

Memphis — Twelve runs combined in the second and third innings propeled the defending Class AAA state champion Farragut Admirals baseball team to within one win of the 2004 title game.

Cody Brown’s 4-for-4 hitting effort, including three RBIs, along with David King’s two hits, including a home run and four RBIs, lifted FHS to a 16-6 thrashing of Hunters Lane Thursday.

Riley Jennings connected for two hits and four RBIs while Harrison Eldridge smacked a pair of doubles and brought in three runs. Tony Delmonico added a home run and a double, while Kyle Waldrop had two hits.

Winning pitcher Philip Sherrard worked three innings of this five inning game, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out five. Relievers Phillip Heyming and Tyler Powell struggled, allowing six runs and four hits and 1 2/3 innings. Senior Drew Reagen worked the final 1/3 of an inning.

The nation’s No. 4 Admirals (43-2 record) who entered the Class AAA state tourney ranked No. 1 in Tennessee, play Munford in the bracket finals Friday morning.

Munford, the Class AAA 2003 state runnerup who fell to FHS in the title game last season and who lost to the Ads 7-1 in the opening round Wednesday, has to win twice to advance to Saturday’s state title game.

The first pitch at AutoZone field Saturday is set for 8 p.m. (central daylight time).
