FHS-Oak Ridge showdown for state soccer title
Defending state champion Ads breeze past Houston while ORHS earns chance for revenge in Saturday's showdown

MEMPHS — Just like last season, the state’s top-ranked Farragut Admirals boys soccer team will have to whip a neighborhood bully to claim the Class AAA state championship.

Still stinging from an 8-1 thrashing at the hands of FHS in the Region 2-AAA final May 20, No. 5 state-ranked Oak Ridge (19-6-1) earned the right for a third chance to beat the mighty Ads with a 1-0 victory against No. 4 Brentwood Thursday in the state semifinals.

Meanwhile, the defending state champion Admirals (23-2 record) breezed past No. 6 Houston 5-0 Thursday in the other semifinal and will defending their title vs. ORHS beginning at 5 p.m. (central daylight time) Saturday at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

FHS hopes to repeat its "neighborhood" magic of last season when they beat arch-rival Bearden 3-1 in overtime in the Class AAA title game. The Bulldogs were two-time defending champs going into that showdown.

As for Thursday’s Farragut win, two Jared Britcher goals led the way, along with goals from Aaron Doyle, Daniel Hinman and Austin Rhoades. FHS, who outshot Houston (12-5-5 final record) 16-to-5, led 3-0 at the half.
