Waldrop leads Diamond Ads to 2nd straight Class AAA state title
Despite pitching on only two days rest, senior goes the distance with three-hitter to beat feisty Knox Halls 3-1

MEMPHIS, May 29 - Saying he had never pitched on only two days rest his entire high school career, Farragut Admiral staff ace Kyle Waldrop lived on the wild side Saturday night.

With the Class AAA state title on the line, Waldrop gutted out a three-hit, complete game effort as the nation's No.4-ranked Diamond Ads repeated a state champs with a 3-1 win against a feisty Knox Halls team at AutoZone Park.

Waldrop, who finished his FHS career with a 14-0 pitching record and earned run average in the range of 0.10, helped his own cause early by driving in Tony Delmonico with a first-inning RBI triple to right-centerfield.

Finishing with a 46-2 record, Farragut's two-year run as Class AAA state champs brings their two-year record to 94-3 (48-1 and No. 2 final national rank in 2003).

Cody Brown, who had a huge two-out, two strike RBI single to right field in the fifth, brought home Waldrop with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

David King also had a key two-strike hit to start the FHS fifth inning, and scored on Brown's single.

Halls (32-12 final record), a loser to Farragut 15-0 in the Region 2-AAA finals May 19, got a super pitching performance from junior Daniel Larsen. He allowed just five hits, one intentional walk and one hit batter while striking out four.
