Faust labels BHS girls track ‘disappointing’ for 6th-place state finish
Staff Reports - Thu, Jun, 3, 2004
MEMPHIS — Stung by a disqualification in the 4 X 800 relay and other less than stellar performances according to the coach, the Bearden Lady Bulldogs settled for a sixth-place finish during Thursday’s Class AAA state championship track and field meet at Briarcrest Christian School.
But the problems were much more than just one disqualification.

“I thought we performed poorly, I was pretty disappointed,” BHS head coach Barry Faust said.
Though Lady Bulldogs sprinting/jumping star Judy Johnson compiled 21 of Bearden’s 30.50 points — third-place in the 100-meter run (12.59) and fourth in the 200, 400 and triple-jump — apparently no one in burgundy and grey was happy.
“She didn’t perform up to par,” said Faust, who is a sprinting/jumping events specialist for both the boys and girls teams. “She was disappointed with herself.”
However, Caite Oyler finished fourth in the high jump (5-feet-4) “and did very well,” Faust said about his only senior, adding that BHS freshman Jenny Randolph “ran very well” after finishing sixth in the 3,200 run (11:51.93).
Ironically, the DQ’d 4 X 800 team, who originally finished the state race third, ran the best time for a BHS team in 26 years (9:46.00). Mary Alex Rochester, Kelly Fuller, Mary Catherine Prince and Jodie Masterman were then disqualified due to a thrown baton after the race was over. “We went from fourth-(place) to sixth because of that,” Faust said.
The Lady Bulldogs’ 4 X 200 team was seventh.

The Farragut Lady Admirals finished 17th (15 points), led by Rebecca Cole’s third-place finish in the pole vault. The FHS 4 X 800 team was third (9:52.90), while the Lady Admiral 4 X 400 team took sixth (4:07.06).
