Free small business seminar scheduled

The Small Business Development Center will be sponsoring, in conjunction with the Business Owner’s Success Series, a seminar entitled “Marketing and Promoting a Small Business.” This free seminar will be held at the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce office at 245 N. Main Street, Suite 200, in Clinton, on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 from 10 a.m. to noon.

The following topics will be covered: understanding your product and your customer, setting image, reputation and marketing objective, developing sales, service and promotion strategies, creating communications, advertising and publicity and adjusting to change. East Tennessee APA meeting June 16

The regular monthly meeting of the East Tennessee Chapter of the APA will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at The Tennessee Grill, 900 Neyland Dr., from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost for the meeting is $15 per person, which includes the meal. Tennessee Department of Revenue business workshop scheduled

The Tennessee Department of Revenue will hold its bimonthly new business workshop on July 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the department’s Knoxville regional office, located at 531 Henley St. The workshop will be held on the seventh floor in conference room B.

GIS Course offered

The University of Tennessee will offer an intensive, three-day, hands-on course to introduce ArcView 8.3 desktop.

Learn how a Geographical Information System works: find prospects; select the best location for a new business; identify, inventory and manage natural resources; plan efficient service routes; develop and administer emergency response plans. The course begins with an explanation of the basic terms and concepts of a GIS.

A valuable reference text, a 180-day full-power ArcView package, two lunches and food breaks are included.

John Wilkerson, Ph.D., will lead and others will assist as needed to assure a quality learning experience. Students will spend most of their time in the computer lab learning the software. Space is limited.

Cost of the course is $645. The class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m June 22 to 24 at the UT Agriculture Campus.
