Pirates are softball champs

Pirates players Alesia Leggett, center, and Laura Englert, left, catch head coach Jim Sparhawk off-guard and give him the traditional victory bath following the Pirates’ 1-0 victory against the Rangers in the championship round of the 2004 CBFO 13-to-18 Softball League Tournament at the Northshore Fields Monday night. CBFO Softball commissioner Don Hutcheson, far right, Pirates assistant coach and CBFO Softball volunteer Dan Machiela, second from right, and Pirate player Kathryn Machiela, far left, all enjoy coach Sparhawk’s winning bath. Finishing second in the nine-team league regular season standings,

the Pirates rode the arm and bat of pitcher Katie McBee (see pictures on page 17) to finish 4-0 in the tourney and 16-4 overall for the season. Also assisted by coach Tim Stone, other Pirates team members are Emily Arnold, Katie Stone, Alyssa Sparhawk, Erin Arnold, Leah Jenkins and Elisabeth Carlsson.

(Editor’s Note: Pirates’ team picture will run in an upcoming edition of the farragutpress.)
