Voting, it’s a privilege not an obligation. Or is it?
Everyone complains about the government. Taxes are too high, government wastes money, government isn’t spending enough money — the list goes on.
But in order to have a voice in how government is shaped, it is the obligation of all citizens to vote, or as presidential candidate John Kerry’s wife Teresa Heinz Kerry so eloquently put it: “Shove it.”
Many people take their right to vote with a cavalier attitude, not realizing that many lives have been spent to allow them the luxury of voting. Yes, luxury. Just ask anyone who lives in a dictatorship.
So, this Aug. 5 take a few moments out of the day and cast a vote for something or someone. There are a lot of people out there who want to spend your money or raise your taxes.
Have a voice.
