Franklin’s West Printing offers digital archiving

Franklin’s West Printing, Digital Imaging and Copying is keeping up to date with modern technology and expanding their customer range by offering a new service: digital archive record keeping.

“It’s something that we have recently started offering,” said Jack Wickstrom, president and account executive of Franklin’s West. “It is a good avenue to look at right now, because not a lot of people are doing digital archiving yet.”

Digital archiving involves the process of taking a customer’s paper files, scanning them and placing the data onto a computer disc, thus reducing the need for excess storage capacity. According to Wickstrom, one CD can hold 900 to 1800 files, depending upon the size of the file that is scanned.

“We are finding that businesses rent storage facilities the same size as their actual office space just to house their records,” said Wickstrom. “We can put their records on a computer disc. The disc will last approximately ten to fifteen years, and we will update the file CD as the need arises.”

Digital files can be stored electronically and then printed.

“This process cuts labor costs and overhead costs for the customer, because no one has to leave his or her desk to search for a file,” said Wickstrom.

Located at 11153 Outlet Drive in West Knoxville, Franklin’s West is independently owned and operated by Jack and his wife and business partner, Sue Wickstrom.

The Wickstroms purchased the Franklin’s franchise in 1998, and have been at the Outlet Drive location for approximately one year.

The office is comprised of 5,000 square feet of space, including production and storage areas.

The in-house staff consists of four full-time associates and one part-time associate who work with state-of-the-art computer systems and software that can produce the highest quality documents to date.

A few of the many services that Franklin’s West specializes in are manuals and catalogs, business forms, newsletters, business cards as well as developing customer logos. They offer a variety of techniques to “make the customer’s work get attention,” said Wickstrom.

Franklin’s motto is “Your image is our Business.”

“Our target market is small to medium-sized businesses, but we also cater to the individual as well. We will handle anything that is printed,” Wickstrom said.

Having been in the printing business for 35 years, Wickstrom said that he is very familiar with the aspects of the business.

“It is really a challenge to stay up to date with all of the technology of the printing business, but it is something that is very important to Franklin’s West,” said Wickstrom.

According to Wickstrom, a digital scanner including the software costs approximately $10,000 to $12,000. He and his associates have gone through extensive training in an attempt to provide the utmost in customer satisfaction.
