Bishop continues previewing golf skills

Bearden High School star golfer Mallory Bishop once again knocked on the door of a state championship, but couldn’t quite knock it down.

The talented senior-to-be at BHS was in top form during the Girls Junior State Championship July 7-9 in Murfreesboro, finishing in a four-way tie for second-place at 222 (6-over-par) during the 54-hole event.

Class AAA state runner-up for the BHS Lady Bulldogs in 2002 and third in the state last year, Bishop and her teammates will soon be wearing Bearden burgundy as the 2004 high school fall sports season cranks up.

Meanwhile, future Farragut High Lady Admiral Alyssa Randolph, who will be a freshman at FHS this fall according to Farragut golf coach Mike Driver, could give Bishop and Company fits as judged by Randolph’s victory as 10-to-14 year-old champ at the Girls Junior State.

She fired 112 during the 27-hole event.

As for the older Lady Ads in the 54-hole state event, Erika Thornton finished 14th (235) while teammate Megan Cox was 16th (238) and teammate Jillian Brodd tied for 21st (240).

Mary Alice Orr of Christian Academy of Knoxville tied for 38th (258).
