Dollar General opens in Farragut Towne Square

The Dollar General store opened in the Farragut Towne Square shopping center on Friday, July 30.

The grand opening was held on Saturday, Aug. 7, and Sunday, Aug. 8. Door prizes such as a free gallon of laundry detergent and compact sewing kits were given to the first 100 customers through the door.

Patron Brenda Pitts said, “I am so glad that this store is here. With these prices, I will definitely be back.”

Dollar General stores offer everyday core merchandise to its customers with more than 2,500 items priced at $1 or less. Currently the price range for merchandise at the Farragut store is from 50 cents to $75.

Farragut store manager Adora Lineberger said that the response to the store opening has been excellent. “Business is really starting to pick up, especially in school supplies,” she said.

Lineberger said that 90 percent of the store merchandise is hand ordered. “We sell regular merchandise, not seconds, defective or overstocked goods.”

Lineberger added that Dollar General sells basic health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, apparel, housewares and seasonal items.

“We will be getting Halloween items in soon, and will be featuring them in the near future,” she said.

Dollar General also sells some perishable items such as milk and ice cream as well as many snack foods.

“We sell greeting cards priced at two for a dollar,” Lineberger said.

The typical Dollar General store has more than 6,700 square feet of selling space. The stores are located throughout the North, Mid-West and Southeast.

Dollar General has recently initiated an aggressive new store development campaign and as of July, there are more than 7,000 Dollar General stores in operation. The company headquarters is located in Goodlettsville.

The Farragut store accepts cash and checks, and in the near future will take Discover cards.

“We also take all manufacturers coupons and run ad specials,” Lineberger said.

Dollar General will be opening another store on Kingston Pike , near Walker Springs Road in the near future.

“We will be where the old Stein Mart was,” Lineberger said. “We will start putting the store together and stocking the shelves on Aug. 17 and the store should be opened at the end of this month.”

Lineberger is currently accepting applications for sales associates and team managers at the Walker Springs store.

Dollar General is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 11a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
