Jarvis wins four medals

• Farragut’s Billy Jarvis had a big medal haul during the semi-annual U.S. Transplant Games. Appearing in his fourth Transplant Games — this year’s game were held in Minneapolis July 27 to Aug. 1 — Jarvis won four medals: gold in basketball; silver in swimming; bronze in doubles tennis; and bronze in singles tennis.

CBFO bowl games are set

• CBFO Football bowl games for ages 7 to 13 will take place Saturday, Aug. 28, at Farragut High School beginning at 8:30 a.m., with games scheduled through 5 p.m. Halls is the primary opponent, with the Bearden super midgets and the Fulton 9-year-old team also participating. Tickets are $3 for adults and free for high school-aged and younger.

CBFO volleyball sign-ups set

• Sign-up day for CBFO Volleyball fall league will be from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, in the Farragut Middle School cafeteria. A mandatory coaches meeting starts immediately after sign-ups. Willis nails hole-in-one

• Former Farragut High School state champion and college All-American golfer Garrett Willis nailed a hole-in-one on the par 3, 16th hole during the PGA Tour’s Reno-Tahoe Open in Nevada Sunday. According to his father, Dan Willis, the former FHS star golfer won a car valued at $40,000 for sinking the hole-in-one. Willis finished the 72-hole tournament tied for 18th-place (3-under-par), winning $37,800.

Fall soccer tourney is set

• The Knoxville Football Club and the Soccer Club of Oak Ridge have announced a joint venture for this October. The soccer tournament, formerly known as SCOR-IT, has been renamed the “Columbus Day Invitational” and will take place Oct. 9-10, at four separate venues in West Knoxville and Oak Ridge. The Knoxville Football Club and the Soccer Club of Oak Ridge, two local competitive soccer clubs, will jointly host this event. FHS Benefit golf is set

• The annual Farragut High School Baseball Benefit Golf Tournament is Friday, Sept. 24, at Willow Creek Golf Club. Cost is $85 per person and includes lunch, range balls and golf cart. ACAC swim tryouts held

• The Atomic City Aquatic Club is now conducting tryouts for new swimmers. The professional coaching staff, including Greg Grass, Greg Williams, and Lois Weir, provide individual attention to swimmers of all skill levels. Morning, afternoon, and evening practices are held at the 25-yard indoor pool in the Oak Ridge Civic Center, where there is free parking. The swim program includes workouts in the pool as well as dry-land exercises for a serious competitive edge.
