BHS golf boys on fire at EL; girls rebound

Bearden High School’s girls golf team rebounded well from a tough loss to its archrival.

A loss to Farragut among a three-team field at The Lankmark at Avalon course Sept. 14 was described by BHS head coach John Heins as “a little wake-up motivator for us.”

But one day later, “we came back and played good at Eagle’s Landing (Sevierville, Sept. 15),” Heins said about the Lady Bulldogs win versus William Blount and Sevier Co., led by Mallory Bishop’s 33 during the nine hole event.

“She’s leading the way for us, she’s living up to expectations,” Heins said about Bishop, his No. 1 player who has twice come close to winning the Class AAA state individual championship.

BHS BOYS, POST-SEASON

A boys team score of 142 for nine-holes, “which is our best match of the year so far” according to coach Heins, led the Bearden boys to victory at Eagle’s Landing against WBHS and Sevier. Junior Benn Dabbs and senior Andrew Lenczyk led the Bulldogs with rounds of 32.

Farragut and Bearden will square off in a dual match at Willow Creek Golf Club to end the regular season Friday, with opening tee-offs at 4 p.m.

“It’ll just kind of show us where we stand before getting into the district and region tournaments,” Heins said. “I think our kids have been looking forward to it all year.”

The boys’ district tournament begins next Monday, Sept. 27, at Lambert Acres in Townsend.

Girls’ region tournament action takes place at Beaver Brook in Halls Thursday, Sept. 30. The boys’ region tourney is in LaFollette Oct. 4.
