The farragutpress applauds the town of Farragut for its efforts to cooperate with the Knox County Election Commission.

The town has found the space needed for the election commission to install three voting machines in the back portion of the main assembly room.

Voting is a privilege that many Americans take for granted.

For the town to step up and help aide in making that privilege more accessible to voters is to be commended.

The farragutpress has been told that the tentative procedure is that voters will check in at tables set up in the rotunda of the Town Hall and voting will take place in the assembly room.

The town administration and Board of Mayor and Aldermen had expressed concerns that the use of the Town Hall would create havoc with the classes and community events previously scheduled in and around the Town Hall.

But at the end of the day when measurements and calculations had been completed, ample room was found for three voting machines and classes will go on as scheduled with no interruption in service.

Everyone’s needs have been met. There is ample parking with no congestion.

Well done. Town Halls should be used for voting and should be the focal point of any small town.

Now if we only had a general store with a wooden floor and a pot-bellied stove … .
