Lady Ads volleyball ‘passing’ recent tests with winning streak fueled by chemistry, toughness

Coming into this week with a 16-match winning streak and a 37-5 overall record (8-0 in District 4-AAA), the Farragut High School volleyball team is “passing” its recent test.

Head coach David Moore said excellent passing, particularly from back row specialist Christy Degen, has been a huge ingredient in the winning streak.

“Christy Degen is passing as well as anybody I’ve ever had,” Moore said. “After a match against Bearden, I told her after the game she put on a passing exhibition. I don’t think she had a pass off target the whole match.

“If you have that it makes everything else click and run a whole lot easier.”

As for the team, “they’re a lot like that ’99 team that was fifty-and-six (record),” Moore said. “They kind of have that same togetherness and playing hard and they just don’t like to lose. They’re finding ways to win. If it’s a night when someone’s off, somebody seems to be picking them up.”

As for direct comparisons to the 1999 team, “I don’t know if this bunch is quite as talented as that bunch,” Moore said. “In some ways they’re more talented and in other ways they’re not quite as talented.”
