Bettye Sisco and the Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce scored a touchdown with its selection of UT’s Joan Cronan as keynote speaker at its September breakfast last Tuesday.

Cronan, women’s athletic director at UT, provided a real boost to the morning with her weaving of tales of UT women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt and basic principles of good business.

At times humorous with a few jokes, one of which featuring the Rev. Billy Graham, a limousine and a state trooper, Cronan captured her audience. We won’t give away her punch line. You’ll have to listen to her the next time she’s scheduled to speak.

Cronan reminded the early-morning group that UT women’s athletics was more than just the Lady Vols basketball team, but also included 11 different sports with athletes just as dedicated as Summitt’s troops.

The Chamber has Farragut Mayor Eddy Ford slated as its next guest speaker at its November breakfast, which also is to be held at Fox Den Country Club. (See Chamber stories on page 1 and 3.)

That too should be quite motivational as well, as Mayor Ford is probably one of the town of Farragut’s best salesmen.

So, despite the runny scrambled eggs and limp bacon, it’s well worth the effort to get up and attend one of these Chamber breakfasts.
