LMU has only veterinary technology program in East Tennessee

The North American Veterinary Technician Association Inc., has proclaimed the third week in October as National Veterinary Technician Week. This week has been designated annually to recognize veterinary technicians nationwide for their contributions as members of the veterinary medical team.

Veterinary technicians work closely with veterinarians and other members of the veterinary medical team delivering quality animal health care. Primary responsibilities in the veterinary practice involve animal nursing, administering medications, assisting in surgery, radiology induction and monitoring anesthesia, hospital management and laboratory duties.

Veterinary technicians are also employed in non-traditional jobs such as biomedical research, military, sales and education.

There are only two veterinary technoloy porgrams in Tennessee. Columbia State Community College in Middle Tennessee and Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate.

LMU’s program began in 1985 to meet the increasing demand for veterinary technicians.

The program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

If you are interested in a career in veterinary technology, call 423-869-6278 or 423-869-6205.
