FHS Marching Band garners awards

The Farragut High School Marching Band won its second competition in as many weeks. The title of grand champion was given to the Admirals in the Greenville competition Saturday, Oct. 9, and again in Morgantown, N.C., Saturday, Oct. 16.

The latest competition, the Freedom Classic, featured 18 teams from North Carolina and two from Tennessee. The other Tennessee team was from Sullivan County in upper East Tennessee.

The band collected first place honors in Drums, Drum Major, Color Guard, Musical Composition and Marching Ability among other categories.

Ron Rogers, FHS band director, said the band typically participates in three different competitions in the fall. One of the competitions is local and the other two are out of state.

The marching band has 250 plus members who also perform at football games as well as band competitions. Rogers said the FHS band is a wonderful ambassador in representing Knox County Schools, Farragut and the State of Tennessee in regional, national and international events.

The next competition is Saturday, Oct. 30, in West Minster, S.C.
