FHS/NJROTC qualify for nationals

The Farragut High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit competed with 14 other schools from Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky Saturday, Oct. 23, at Sullivan North High School in Kingsport and walked away as overall champions for the second consecutive year.

The win earns the eight-year-old unit the right to compete with 25 other teams in Pensacola Fla., in April 2005

The all-day competition included five various drill routines, both armed and unarmed, personnel inspection, academic examination and four athletic events. The 37-member team won eight of the 11 scored events, placing second in two or more and garnering third place in the last event. Additionally, FHS cadets won two individual competitions not scored for the overall winnerís trophy.

This is the second year in a row that the 180 cadet FHS/NJROTC Unit has earned the right to compete at the national level.

The unit is led by Capt. Dennis Worley. Worley will be retiring from FHS in January to pastor a church.

For more information about the NJROTC, call Capt. Worley at 675-6784.
