Pilot Travel Center to open in December

Construction is well underway for the newly revamped Campbell Station Road Pilot Travel Center, which plans to open the week before Christmas.

Roy Parsons, corporate architect for Pilot Corporation, said, “The crew has been working diligently and as of right now, we are on schedule.”

The former gas station/convenience market and the vacant business attached to it were torn down in October.

“The leased space has been used for early voting for Farragut residents, as well as a UT memorabilia store and antique store among other things,” Parsons said.

Adding that the facility was “old and tired,” Parson said they have worked with the town of Farragut to ensure proper setback requirements and landscaping plans that will satisfy all parties involved.

Parsons said the convenience store and car wash structures have been built, as well as the canopy above the gas pumps. He added the roofing material should be in place soon.

He said the new Pilot would house 2,400 square feet of retail space. It will also have an automatic car wash with a combination of touch-free and brush settings. Restrooms will be located on the inside of the store.

The travel center will have five gasoline pumps housed under a canopy that will run perpendicular to Campbell Station Road.

“We will offer our coffee program in the new store as well as some new deli services,” Parsons said.

The store will feature food and sundry items similar to other Pilot Travel Centers along with some brand new food service items. Parsons said the travel center should meet the needs of customers in the Farragut area. “We have brought in some different kinds of food for the Farragut location.”

Parsons added the designers have added some new sign imagery which he added will present a fresh look.

He said Pilot has its own design department with project managers as well as construction managers. The construction company for this project is Sequouyah Ltd.

Judy Edwards, administrative assistant for convenience store operations, said, “We plan on holding a ribbon cutting on opening day and we will have a grand opening celebration after the new year.”

Edwards said the new Pilot would be a 24-hour convenience store.

Pilot Travel Centers, LLC is the nation’s largest chain of travel centers with approximately 275 locations in 38 states.

Pilot is a 45 year-old company that employs more than 16,000 employees, with revenues exceeding $5 billion.
