Pilot, Truckers for Tots deliver Angel Tree holiday presents

Santa’s sleigh arrived early this year, when Pilot delivered a truckload of new toys to the Angel Tree warehouse in West Knoxville.

“This is our third year buying toys for Angel Tree. With more than eleven thousand dollars worth of toys, it’s our biggest year ever,” said Dave Canges, general manager of the Pilot Travel Center on Lovell Road and coordinator of the effort. “Of course, the real credit goes to the thousands of people whose donations made it all possible.”

Employees at three area Pilot Travel Centers — Lovell Road, Dandridge and Heiskel — collected $1 donations from customers beginning Nov. 1 as part of Pilot’s Truckers for Tots program. The massive toy donation will supplement other Angel Tree gifts and also will provide gifts for children who are served by the Boys & Girls Clubs but are not on the Angel Tree roster. The toys include everything from dolls and coloring posters to TV-DVD combo players and remote-control cars.

Pilot Travel Centers LLC operates 259 travel centers in 38 states and licenses 10 locations throughout Kansas, Montana and Nebraska. The company employs about 13,000 people.
