Packer returns to television


Long time Knoxville WBIR TV sports anchor and West Knox resident Mark Packer announced effective this week he will join WVLT-TV, Knoxville’s CBS affiliate, on the news set.

Packer has inked a deal with WVLT to co-anchor its recently launched weekday late afternoon newscast, WVLT Volunteer TV News “FIRST, at 4:00.”

When not working on the station’s 4 p.m. news and producing his shows for WVLT’s UPN station, Packer will be on-board with the WVLT Sports Overtime team headed by Rick Russo.

WVLT-TV is Knoxville’s CBS affiliate, making it the region’s home to Southeastern Conference Football, “The SEC on CBS.” Also WVLT-TV is East Tennessee’s home to the University of Tennessee and SEC sports produced by Jefferson Pilot.

WVLT owns and operates UPN Knoxville from its Papermill Road facilities. The Knoxville stations are subsidiaries of Gray Television, Inc. Gray Television, Inc. is a communications company headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., whose primary mission is to provide quality news and entertainment services to the local markets in which the Company operates.

Gray Television, Inc. currently operates 15 CBS-affiliated television stations, seven NBC-affiliated television stations, seven ABC-affiliated television stations and four daily newspapers.
