Weekend Dutchtown Road death victim has FHS ties

A body found alongside Dutchtown Road in West Knox County Saturday, Jan. 15, was identified as being Thomas Jay Olmstead, assistant girls soccer coach at Farragut High School.

Knox County Sheriff’s Department deputies were dispatched to 10432 Dutchtown Road in West Knox County to investigate a report of a body alongside the road at about 4:15 p.m., said Martha Dooley, KCSD spokesperson.

On arrival, Dooley said, officers found the body of Olmstead, 59, and the bicycle on which he was riding.

“The medical examiner’s office said that it appears that Olmstead died of natural causes and there was no evidence of foul play,” Dooley said, adding that an autopsy had not been performed as of press deadline Tuesday.

Dooley said Olmstead would have turned 60 Tuesday, Jan. 18.
