• To celebrate Bearden High School baseball team’s completion of a new team room at Phil Garner Field, Friday, Jan. 28, there will be an open house and fund-raising supper in the school cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m., before the home basketball games against West. A team room dedication will follow. Second year head coach Matt Buckner “has rallied the Bulldog Baseball Dugout Club and many baseball alumni to complete this long-time dream of the program,” BHS booster Buddy Heins said. “... the facilities ... are second to none..”

• The annual Bluegrass Baseball League will begin practices Tuesday, March 1. The parent and/or guardian of any boys and girls in kindergarten, first- or second-grade who would like to play should contact Rocky King at 546-0500 (daytime) or 690-3551 (evening) to request a registration form. The 2005 registration fee is $60. The season runs Monday, April 4, through Thursday, May 19, with the annual season-end party on Friday, May 20, at Celebration Station. • Eddie Courtney, Farragut High School varsity football head coach, said the FHS football program is seeking to honor past FHS players within the walls of its new fieldhouse. Courtney is seeking the names of FHS football players between 1947 and 1983 who earned any of the following post-season honors: All-state, All-East Tennessee, and/or All-county (including All-KFL). In addition, the FHS football skipper said he is seeking 8 X 10 photos of any former FHS player who went on to play college football (alumni or their relatives are asked to submit pictures, which Courtney said would be copied and returned). • “A Lead-off Celebration of a New Season of Farragut Baseball” will kick off tonight (Thursday, Jan. 27), with the Farragut High School Baseball Dugout Club’s Third Annual Diamond Dinner and silent auction at First United Methodist Church, 12733 Kingston Pike. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a social hour and silent auction. Local radio talk show host Hallerin Hilton Hill is the scheduled guest speaker. Dinner is provided. • Five students from Farragut East West Karate School earned trophies at the “Isshinryu Fall Classic and OKU Karate Championships Tournament” Saturday, Nov. 20, at Powell High School: Trey Scheb, leadership team/second-place, weapons. Theran Beach, student instructor/third-place, sparring; fifth-place, open hand forms; sixth-place weapons. Josh McMillan, instructor/second-place, sparring. Chelsea Belcher, leadership team/first-place, sparring. Michael Belcher, leadership team/first-place, sparring.

• Farragut High School alum Denise Koessler was a leg on the 400 freestyle relay swimming team (3:37.90) for The College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio) that swam the 11th fastest time among all NCAA Division III schools to date this season, qualifying them for the national championship meet March 10-12.
