BHS boys end regular season with two wins

The Bearden Bulldogs ended the regular season with a 72-67 win over the Karns Beavers Thursday, Feb. 17, at KHS.

With the Beavers running a special triangle defense in an attempt to stop sharpshooters Paul Dickenson and Rande Sibley, the Bulldogs looked elsewhere for points.

While Dickenson still managed to score 17, Tony White answered the call and scored a game-high 25 points. B.J. Ware scored 12 and as BHS head coach Mark Blevins said, “Ware is just now getting back into the swing of things after his injury.”

The junior guard sprained his ankle against Maryville Feb. 4, and has seen his playing time limited since.

Beavers scoring threat Jody Fersner was held to 19 points, lower than his season average of 24 points-per-game. Fersner was the only Karns player to score in double digits.

The Bulldogs controlled the tempo and led 37-30 at halftime.

Other scorers for BHS were Nathan England with eight, Sibley with five, Katlin Garner four and Andy Fennell with one point.

The Bulldogs finish the regular season with a 21-10 record.

As for the District 4-AAA tourney, Blevins is confident his team is ready as they sought to play in the championship game Friday, Feb. 25, (semifinals played Tuesday, Feb. 22, after press deadline). “... We know we will be ready but we will have a formidable opponent to go against,” Blevins said. “We have won three of the last four tournaments and it sure would be nice to win a fourth.”
