Village Green home gutted by fire Feb. 21

Fire gutted a North Monticello Drive home while its owners were at work Monday, Feb. 21.

Firefighters from Rural/Metro Fire Department station No. 11 and others responded to a fire at the home of James R. and Allma P. Lee in Village Green subdivision shortly before 4 p.m.

Capt. Jeff Devlin of Rural/Metro said, “We were first on the scene … we had it knocked down in about fifteen minutes.”

Devlin added the fire probably “began in the kitchen area of the home and quickly extended into the attic” of the approximately $190,000 home.

Attempts by fire officials at the time of the fire to reach the Lees – James, a U.S. Postal Service worker, and Allma, a teacher at Austin-East High School – had been unsuccessful.

Records indicate the Lees have lived at the residence since 1961.

Devlin said units from stations 11, 15, 210 and 214 responded to the fire. There were no injuries.
