State power Collierville

Rocked early and late by Class AAA state power Collierville, the two-time defending state champion Farragut Admirals lost for the first time in 2005.

“They just beat us, it’s not like we beat ourselves,” FHS head coach Tommy Pharr said about the 7-4 loss Saturday, March 19, at Farragut’s John Heatherly Field.

With six hits, all singles, plating three runs in the first two innings, Collierville broke open a slim lead with four runs in the sixth, rocking FHS relief pitching. The Dragons ended with 15 hits.

Offensively for Farragut, Cody Brown’s two-RBI double and RBI single led the way. Riley Jennings added an RBI double, while Ryne Steben also doubled for the Ads, whose record fell to 2-1 entering the week.

Winning pitcher Phillip Heyming went six innings while allowing three hits, no walks with four strikeouts. “He hit his spots well,” Pharr said.

Steben and Chip Eskew each had two hits and three RBIs, with Steben having two doubles.

Brown homered, while Clay Ivy added two hits, including a double. Jennings added a double and two RBIs, and Rob Catapano had a double.
