It’s a win, a tie, a loss for FHS boys soccer in Georgia

The defending national champion Farragut boys soccer team managed a win and one tie in three games against some of Georgia’s better teams during a three-day visit to Jekyll Island, Ga.

Opening with a 2-1 victory against Glynn Academy Thursday, March 17, the Admirals and St. Pius battled to a 2-2 tie the next day. Farragut managed only two goals despite a 17-4 edge in shots-on-goal vs. St. Pius. “We hit the crossbar like you wouldn’t believe,” FHS head coach Wallie Culbreth said.

The round-robin event culminated with the Admirals’ 2-0 loss to Walton High School Saturday, March 19.

“That’s one of the better teams I’ve seen in Georgia the last three years I’ve been down there,” Culbreth said.

Individually for the Admirals, whose record stood at 1-1-2 entering the week, Culbreth praised defenders Brad Pease and Kirk Ruoff. “Defensively, they kept us in it,” the coach said.

As for goals, Ben Lawson led the way with two. Jake Russell scored one.
