Homewood Suites by Hilton opens soon at Turkey Creek

Homewood Suites by Hilton, the upscale extended hotel chain, is opening its first Knoxville location Friday, April 15.

Originally set to open in December 2004 and then April 1, the staff at Homewood Suites Knoxville West at Turkey Creek is putting the finishing touches on the “highly anticipated” hotel.

Tracy Hicks, director of sales for Homewood, said, “We’ve had some construction and weather issues, and of course there were some environmental concerns that held us up, but we are about two weeks away from opening and so excited to be here.”

The environmental issues alluded to by Hicks are the protected wetlands of Turkey Creek that border the property.

Voted the No. 1 extended stay chain in the United States by Business Travel News for 2004 and tying for first place in the J.D. Power and Associates 2004 domestic hotel guest satisfaction study, Homewood Suites caters to the business traveler and families needing a temporary home due to relocation.

“We focus on the extended stay traveler but anyone is welcome to stay with us, even if it is just for one night,” Hicks said. “And we allow pets, which is important to many of our guests.”

The Turkey Creek Homewood features 103 (nine smoking) all-inclusive studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites. All suites have fully-equipped kitchens including a full-size refrigerator with ice maker. Guests are treated to a complimentary hot breakfast daily as well as a light meal and beverages in the evening.

Hicks said many of their business men and women meet with their customers in the gathering room of the lobby and enjoy appetizers and a cocktail before going to dinner.

“We have partnered with the restaurants in the area and have gotten them to sponsor a dinner here at the hotel,” she said. “We’ll have an Olive Garden night, a Connor’s night, an Edison Park night to name a few. Their staff will come in and cook for our guests as a token of thanks.”

Homewood Suites has high speed Internet access throughout, a 24-hour business center and meeting facility. An outdoor pool, whirlpool and an activity center with basketball, badminton/volleyball courts and two full-size gas grills allow guests to occupy their free time.

The hotel offers a tiered rate plan, which drops the price of the suite with each week’s stay.

“We have a gentleman coming from London with his entire family,” Hicks said. “He will be here for one hundred and twenty days. The family will be here for ninety days and with the tiered rate plan after thirty days his rate will decrease.”

Noting the numerous amenities such as laundry and grocery service, a mini convenience store, cable television, DVD players, separate living and sleeping quarters, warm tones, contemporary styled furniture and down-filled comforters, Hicks said the focus of Homewood Suites is to make the guests feel like they are at home rather than in a hotel.

“We will have staff on duty twenty-four-hours a day, so our guests can call any time if they need something,” she said. “And that helps provide a sense of security for our guests knowing that the lobby is staffed at all times.”

Homewood Suites opens at 4 p.m., Friday, April 15.
