Young Cedar Bluff authors read from their original works


Patrons of Barnes and Noble Booksellers who were browsing the children’s book section Feb. 27 were given a rare treat.

Local authors were present to read from their originals works. No, these are not published authors, at least not yet. These authors were from Cedar Bluff Middle and Intermediate Schools. Cedar Bluff Middle Schools, the Cedar Bluff PTA Reading Services Committee.

More recently, the Reading Services Committee coordinated a writing contest that included students from the fifth-grade at Cedar Bluff Intermediate as well as sixth- and seventh- grade students from CBMS.


Contest winners were: fifth grade – first-place – Matthew Van Arsdale, “On My Way to the Airport I Turned into a Dog!” second-place – Libby Schwartz, “Time;” third-place – Amber Bassett, “Water City;” and Honorable Mention – Blake Hall, “Trip to Mars.” sixth grade – first place – Abby Waliga, “Voice;” second-place – Savannah Taylor, “Guardian Angel;” third-place – Olivia Cashion, “My Coral Reef”; and honorable mention – Mandy Chambers, “Love.” 7th grade – first-place – Amy Yoder, “Messenger Bearing Grim Tidings;” second place – Sarah Hyman, “Cat Style;” third-place – Christen Marcus, “The Best Adventure;” and Honorable Mention – Nicole Gillian, “A Car Accident.”
