The Farragut Municipal Election has come and gone.

Congratulations to W. Edward Ford, Michael Haynes and Thomas Rosseel for winning their prospective seats. Congratulations also are in order to William Johns, Ronald Rochelle and Ronald Honken for running excellent campaigns, providing opposition to the other candidates and opening the door to new ideas.

An observation of the election’s totals show that the town’s elected leaders were placed in office by less than 10 percent of the registered voters in Farragut (numbers based on Knox County Election Commission data).

More than 12,000 registered voters chose not to participate in this election for reasons of their own. While these voters did not vote, the town’s elected officials should remember that as elected officials they represent the wishes of these citizens as well as those who chose to vote against them.

Some innovative ideas were raised during this election and it will be interesting as well to see if the Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen will address any of these issues or will resign to “business as usual.”
