FHS fifth in Crossville
Shorthanded Lady Admiral softballers still win 3

CROSSVILLE — Following a 5-0 District 4-AAA victory against West Thursday, April 14, a shorthanded Farragut High School softball team managed to grab three wins and a fifth-place finish during the 16-team Plateau Invitational over the weekend.

Farragut entered the week with a 12-7 overall record, 6-1 in District 4-AAA.

Though missing one starter vs. Cookeville Friday, April 15, the Lady Ads managed a 1-0 victory as Cayla Smith’s RBI single scored Amy Josephson with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Winning pitcher Margaret Morris went the distance, allowing just two hits while striking out 13.

Bledsoe County was the next FHS victim Friday, as Farragut squeaked by 4-3. Jessie Howard was 3-of-4 at the plate while Morris struck out 10, going the distance.

Saturday proved much tougher as several Lady Ads headed back home for Saturday night’s prom.

Hendersonville took advantage of the depleted FHS ranks and won 5-0, as Farragut was limited to one hit, that by Josephson. Josephson and Morris were the only starting upperclassmen to play in the Hendersonville game.

Despite few upperclassmen and only 10 players dressed, the Lady Ads still beat Livingston Academy 4-1. Kristin Murr not only picked up her first FHS varsity win in a complete game performance, but allowed Livingston only three hits. The only LA run was unearned.

Jessie Lane and Rachel Mountain led the winning offense with two hits each. Abby Rose Martin scored two runs.

The Plateau Invitational ended on a rough note, as Walker Valley eliminated FHS 14-0, a game that lasted only three innings. Aimee Reeves had the only Farragut hit.

Against West, Morris pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts while going the distance. Offensively, Sarah Young, Smith and Morris led the way with two hits apiece.

Tuesday’s April 19 game at Bearden was after press deadline.
