Bearden wins against SDHS, Heritage make district title official

Rain and snow the whole weekend ruined the Red Edmunds Invitational in Greenville for the District 4-AAA regular season champion Bearden Lady Bulldogs.

In what was supposed to be a tournament that lasted through Sunday, only made it through the early part of Saturday as the temperatures dropped and snow began to fall.

The Lady Bulldogs, 20-4 overall, 12-0 in District 4-AAA entering this week, did manage to get two games in before Mother Nature paid a visit.

BHS lost to Morristown East 9-1 Saturday, April 23. Rachel Rowan suffered the loss as her individual record falls to 3-3. "Morristown East had three home runs, they can really hit the ball," BHS head coach Mark Blevins said. "They are going to be really good come tournament time."

In the Friday, April 22 game against Daniel Boone the Lady Bulldogs won 2-1.

In a game that went down to the wire, BHS got the best of Daniel Boone.

"They had a two-hitter going into the seventh and (Sally) Gale had given up two hits at that point as well," Blevins said. Entering the seventh with a 0-0 game, Alicia Boris got a single and Amanda McCollum hit a two run homer to give BHS a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

Daniel Boone came back in the bottom of the seventh with a double and ended up scoring a run on another hit, but came up just short as Gale improved her record to 17-1.

"They are going to do this tournament next week but we can't participate because we are in Farragut's tournament next weekend," Blevins said.
