Mitchell to Ivy League

Webb School varsity tackle/defensive end Phillip Mitchell signed with Columbia University in February. A two-year starter on both the offensive and defensive lines, this 6-foot-4, 245 pound senior was recently named to a pair of Knox County and Knox area All-star teams. A National Merit Commended Scholar, Mitchell was also nominated for the coveted Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, recognizing the nation’s top high school senior citizen-scholar-athlete. Mitchell ended the regular season of his senior year with 30 solo tackles and 15 assists. Seated alongside Phillip Mitchell are his mother and father, Carolyn and Mike Mitchell. Standing, left to right, are Webb head coach Dave Meske, who is also Spartan athletic director; Webb freshman Matt Mitchell, brother; Jay Moore, Spartan football line and weight coach and Steve Balak, Webb Upper School head.
