FHS girls fifth at Volunteer Classic;


With five finishes in the top three during the 43rd Annual Volunteer Track Classic at UT’s Tom Black Track, the Farragut girls earned fifth-place among a national field of 36 teams which scored points.

Meanwhile, the Bearden boys and girls teams each captured sixth-place, the boys doing so among a field of 42 teams.


Highlighting the boys efforts was Bryan Webb’s first-place 400-meter run in 47.97, “its the best in the state so far this year,” said BHS coach Barry Faust.

Also winning was Bearden’s 4 X 200 boys, with Webb, Nathan Grace, Iiran Rogers and Jay Oatts (1:29.07). Oatts took second in the 300 (40.08).

Meanwhile, Bearden’s girls captured the 4 X 100 title, as Jeanna Davis, Danielle Elliott, Judy Johnson and Cassie Lewis were clocked at 49.99. Davis, Elliott, Johnson and Kelly Kohlbusch took second in the 4 X 200 (1:44.61).

Johnson claimed second-place in the 200 (25.10).

On top of third-place finishes from Rebecca Cole in the shot put (10-feet) and the girls distance medley, the Lady Admirals took second in the 4 X 800 (10:01.73), as did Catelyn Dake in the 400 (1:00.52). The foursome of Dake, Julie Ann Fenstermaker, Andrea North and Brittney Simmons finished third in the 4 X 400 (4:09.22).

Farragut’s boys, who finished 16th, placed second in the 4 X 800 (8:19.76).
