• Local golfers will soon join the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer on the fairway, as the American Cancer Society’s “The Babe” Golf Championship will be held Monday, May 23, at Oak Ridge Country Club. By participating in this state tournament qualifier, golfers contribute to the battle against cancer. Proceeds from this event benefit the American Cancer Society’s mission to eliminate cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. Tee time for the tournament is 8 a.m. Registration and breakfast begin at 7 p.m. The fee for the tournament is $500 per four-person team and covers light breakfast, beverages, snacks and a player gift. Winners of the tournament will have the opportunity to advance to the American Cancer Society’s State Championship in August in Nashville. The American Cancer Society’s Golf Championship bills itself as the largest amateur team event in the world. Winners of this year’s state tournaments will advance to the national championship event. The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service.
