Rodeo duo earn shot in nationals

A pair of west side middle school students will try their luck in what is billed as “The World’s Largest Junior High Rodeo” in July. Haley Newport (above), a rising eighth-grade student at West Valley Middle School this fall, qualified for the Inaugural Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo in Gallup, N.M., July 5-8 after winning the Georgia State Championship in Barrel Racing June 2 in Perry, Ga. Lucinda Fletcher (not pictured), a rising eighth-grade student at Farragut Middle School this fall, qualified for the national event in both barrel racing and ribbon roping at the Georgia State Championship.
