Kudos are again warranted for Knox County Mayor Michael Ragsdale for the recent announcement that plans are in the works to expand the Knox County Detention Center.

Knox County Sheriff Tim Hutchison has long campaigned that the county lacked adequate housing for criminals, which often results in criminals being released while awaiting trial and later re-arrested for a similar offense before the original charges were heard.

Confusing? Of course it is. Think how confusing it is for a patrol officer arresting a burglary suspect, who, a few days earlier, was arrested burglarizing someone elseís home.

Having adequate housing for criminals is paramount in reducing crime in Knox County, especially with the number of repeat offenders the sheriff says his staff routinely arrests.

Itís good to see government working together for the common cause ó the people.
