BHS names softball banquet honorees


During its recent banquet, Bearden High School named its softball honorees for a 2005 season that included a perfect 17-0 District 4-AAA record, including regular season and tourney titles.

Most Valuable Player and Ace Award (pitching): Sally Gale, who compiled a 28-2 pitching record with 0.60 earned run average; led team with 487 batting average, finishing first in school history with 74 career stolen bases). BHS head coach Mark Blevins said the Ace Award will be renamed the Gale Award in honor of Gale’s career.

Hazelwood Award (offense): Alicia Boris, finishing with a .439 average including 10 doubles, four triples, three homers and 34 RBIs.

Watson Award (defense): Amanda McCollum, whose .939 fielding percentage Blevins labeled “remarkable.”

Hammill-Green Award: Jennifer Walker, who finished with 18 career doubles.

Rookies of the Year: freshmen Ebony Reddic and Meagan Fredenberg.

Hammill Award (parents): Brett and Brandi Gale.
