Turkey Creek heads west with Texas Roadhouse

Texas Roadhouse owner Ron Houser will open his third store in Knoxville at 11001 Turkey Drive in Turkey Creek Aug. 15.

With stores by East Town and West Town malls, Houser said he waited two years for the Turkey Creek area to develop to open his new location.

“Texas Roadhouse has extreme success on an interstate site in front of a Wal-Mart,” he said. “The last few Texas Roadhouses that have opened have been very strong.

“We feel that Turkey Creek has created a new trade area in Knoxville, and we felt that we needed to be part of it. Although West Town’s … only five miles away, we really feel Turkey Creek has created a separate trade area.

Houser said diverse trades allow him to have several stores in the city. “Knoxville is very separated. That’s what allows us the ability to come in and put the restaurants in because of all the different trade areas in Knoxville; allows us to bring our concept in and provide our food to the different areas because of the way Knoxville’s laid out.”

Houser said eight Texas Roadhouse restaurants are in the region. He chose the franchise “because of the quality of the food,” he said.

“We’re real proud of the fact that we’re a scratch-based kitchen. [We have] fresh baked bread, we hand-cut all our steak, all of our dressings are made from scratch, all of our sides are made homemade.”

He added, “When you come and taste our food you’ll find … the quality and the value and the price that you pay, you can’t beat it. We’ve got a very strong customer base. The parents love bringing the kids in because the kids have a great time with the peanuts and being able to throw the peanuts on the floor, we’ve just created that environment.”

Houser said Texas Roadhouse is about “legendary food, legendary service and legendary fun.

“Our big belief at Texas Roadhouse is that our employees are number one, we feel that if we take care of our employees that that will filter down to our guests, so we try to create a very fun and positive work environment for all of our employees.”

Hiring began July 13 at the Turkey Creek location and training begins Aug. 8.

Houser said Texas Roadhouse is a success because “it’s all about providing a great dining experience at a reasonable price, people love coming back to us. You can’t find a better steak in town, in my opinion.”

Although Texas Roadhouse is an independent franchise, the Texas Roadhouse management group also owns Riverside, Parkside and Lakeside Taverns, as well as Johnny Carino’s.
