Knox Area Junior Golfers enjoy

The Knox Area Junior Golf Association and The First Tee of Knoxville, which manages the Concord Park and Beverly Park Golf Courses, has recently enjoyed tremendous success from many of its current and past participants.

The US Kids Golf State Championship, held in late June at the Fairways at Spencer Creek, Franklin, yielded four champions and two second-place finishers.

Sophia Schubert, 9, Allie Knight, 11, and Kendall Martindale, 12, each won their divisions and will be headed to the World Championship in Williamsburg, Va. at the end of the month.

Also joining the girls to the World Championship will be 6-year-old Bo Fischer, who won the boys 6-under division. Finishing second in their divisions were Anthony Marcinelli, 8, and Brogan Newgent, 9.

Newgent, who carded a 1-under par 35, received a special exemption invitation to the World Championship, but will instead defend his Vehix.com Vince Gill State Championship to be held on the same weekend as the World Championships.

Kory Webb, 12, passed up the US Kids Golf State Championship in order to give another junior an opportunity to qualify for the world championship. Kory has already received a world championship exemption by winning the regional US Kids Golf Jekell Island Cup in his age division in February.

Brogan Newgent, 9, finished second in the Westfield TN PGA Junior Championship in the boys division for juniors 12-and-under. The championship was held at the Little Course at Connor Lane in Franklin. Newgent recorded rounds of 30 and 29 on the par 27 course, which played at its maximum junior length. Also competing from Knoxville was Nathan Hodge and Tyler Davis.

In the girls division, past KAJGA participant Kendall Martindale shot rounds of 27 and 25 for a 2-under par 52 and won the girls title. Also competing from Knoxville was Allie Knight.
