• The Metropolitan Planning Commission will hold its 24th Annual Excellence Awards banquet at 6 p.m., Aug. 23, at the Knoxville Convention Center. Tickets are $30, and the event is open to the public. For more information, call 865-215-3234. The deadline for reservations is Aug. 17. Guest speaker will be Bill Landry, the voice, host, narrator and co-producer of The Heartland Series on WBIR-TV. Landry will speak on “Untold Heartland Tales.” The Excellence Awards honor outstanding development in a variety of categories. Awards will be given to 11 projects this year. • Home Care Services Hospice Program and Pastoral Care at the University of Tennessee Medical Center will be hosting the annual Camp Rainbow, Sept. 9-11 at YMCA Camp Montvale in Blount County. The camp is for children ages 6-12 who are dealing with the death of a loved one. Camp Rainbow provides a fun, safe and caring environment where children are free to explore feelings and concerns about death without fear of embarrassment. Supervised activities will include horseback riding, swimming, sports, nature hikes, crafts, a ropes course and a hayride. Camp is free to participants, with expenses funded entirely through private donations. To register a child for the camp or for more information, please call 865-544-6222.

• Gregory L. Byrd has joined United Community Bank as Vice President and Commercial Lender. A native of Powell, Byrd earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Technological University and is a graduate of The Southeastern School of Banking and The Southeastern School of Commercial Lending.
